Frequently asked questions
The questions kitchens ask before they switch collector. If yours is not here, call or WhatsApp 07716 378590 and ask.
Do you pay for used cooking oil?
Yes. We pay you cash per litre at competitive rates, measured at the point of collection, with no minimum volume. Your used oil is a valuable resource, and we believe the kitchens producing it should be the ones earning from it.
Is there a minimum amount of oil before you will collect?
No. We collect and pay from your very first drum, whatever your volume, with no threshold to clear before you start earning from your oil. If you are a cafe filling a 25 litre drum a fortnight, you are as welcome as a chip shop filling a wheelie bin every week.
Is collection really free?
Completely free. There is no charge for collection, no charge for the sealed drums we supply, and no contract tying you in. Some waste companies charge for every oil pickup; with us it works the other way round, because we pay you for the oil we collect.
What types of oil do you collect?
All used cooking oils and kitchen fats: vegetable, sunflower, rapeseed and olive oils, fryer and pan oil, beef dripping, lard and ghee. We do not collect engine oil, motor oil, hydraulic oil or other industrial oils. If you are unsure, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will confirm.
Which areas of London do you cover?
All of them. We collect across every London borough, plus surrounding towns such as Uxbridge, Slough and Watford, and every area sits on a fixed round with the same terms and the same lead times. Send your postcode through on the booking form and we will confirm your collection day straight away.
Do you provide drums or containers?
Yes, free of charge and sized to your kitchen: 25 litre and 60 litre sealed drums, 240 litre wheelie bins for high-volume fryers, and IBCs of up to 1,000 litres for food producers. The 25 litre drum suits cafes and smaller kitchens, and we pay per litre on it just the same. We swap every container for a clean empty at each collection, so there are no leaks, no smells and nothing for your team to clean.
How quickly can you start?
Fast. We typically call you back within minutes of your enquiry, your first collection is normally next day, and if you are urgent (an overflowing drum, an inspection tomorrow) call before noon and we will do everything we can to get to you the same day. After that you are on a fixed day every week or fortnight, with extra pickups on the same flexible basis.
Are you licensed?
Yes. London Oil Collection Ltd (company number 17353811) holds an Environment Agency Upper Tier Waste Carrier licence, registration CBDU649455, as a Carrier and Dealer. You can verify it on the Environment Agency public register.
Can you collect before my fixed day?
Yes. Your fixed day is there so you always know when we are coming, but it never locks you in. If a busy week fills your drums early, call or WhatsApp us and we will book an extra pickup before your usual day, often the same day if you reach us before noon.
What paperwork do I get and how do I access it?
Every collection generates a digital waste transfer note, stored in your secure online account. Log in at any time to download waste transfer notes and view your full collection history, with dates and litres collected. When an EHO or council inspector asks for your waste documentation, it is all there in seconds.
What happens to the oil?
Your used cooking oil is recycled into biofuel, which produces up to around 88% less CO2 than fossil diesel. Nothing goes to landfill or down the drain.
Still unsure about something? There is no obligation and no contract, so the fastest way to find out is usually to send us a message and ask.
